| I brush my teeth constantly but still have bad breath. What can I do?
Bad breath is caused by bacteria in the mouth that live in pockets around the teeth, the grooves in the tongue and especially on the back of the tongue. As the bacteria tries to break down the food left in the mouth it begins to release an unpleasant odour.
Most mouthwashes give you temporary relief and just mask the odour until it comes back. Mouthwashes contain large amounts of alcohol and can cause other problems with excessive use. The best treatment is to see your dental hygienist ASAP to have the problem diagnosed and treatment started. No one wants the embarrassment of having bad breath and especially to have it pointed out by other people.
